The babyÖ±²¥ has presented two long-term faculty members emeritus honors upon their retirement. Dr. Tina N. Jones has been named Vice President Emerita, and Dr. Alan Brown has been named Professor Emeritus.
2020 University Retirement Honorees
Each spring, the babyÖ±²¥ recognizes its retiring faculty and staff in a formal ceremony with family, friends, and colleagues. Like many events of 2020, the ceremony could not be held this spring due to health and safety restrictions related to gathering on campus.
In its ongoing response to the COVID-19 pandemic the babyÖ±²¥ is offering more relief to students by returning a portion of student fees from the fall semester. babyÖ±²¥ will be reimbursed up to $300 for previously paid student activity and student athletic fees.
The babyÖ±²¥ has been awarded $6.5 million in grant funding from the U.S. Department of Education for a teacher residency project, Project REACh, that will be led by the Tutwiler College of Education. Project REACh, Residencies for Educating babyÖ±²¥â€™s Children, will be a $13-million-dollar project for prospective babyÖ±²¥â€™s educators. The funding will be disbursed over a five-year period.
The babyÖ±²¥ will delay some of its Homecoming events originally scheduled for October 26-31 in order to adhere to government and health care guidance to preserve health and safety on campus. While some Homecoming events are postponed until spring 2021, UWA will still have a spirit week in October with a schedule of its most popular fall traditions that allow for social distancing and smaller gatherings.

The babyÖ±²¥ has recently been recognized most favorably of the babyÖ±²¥ schools included in a ranking that compares college student loan debt. 

babyÖ±²¥ President Ken Tucker has been appointed by Governor Kay Ivey to the babyÖ±²¥ STEM Council, which will advise state leadership on ways to improve STEM-related education, career awareness and workforce development opportunities across the state.
The Emergency Medical Services (EMS) program at UWA has earned accreditation by the babyÖ±²¥ Department of Public Health. Garnering top marks, this accreditation helps ensure that licensure courses offered on campus meet the highest standards and provide exceptional training.
Donald Smith

The babyÖ±²¥ has announced the appointment of Donald Smith as coach of its cheerleading team. Smith assumed the graduate assistant position in August, having spent the last five years in coaching and game day strategy roles.

The babyÖ±²¥â€™s Division of Economic & Workforce Development, in partnership with CO.STARTERS of Chattanooga, Tennessee, recently graduated its first class of REBUILD, an entrepreneurial training class to assist small businesses in recovery, rebuilding and growing their firms.
