UWA student Christian Colato-Martinez from Las Vegas, Nevada experiences internship opportunity of a lifetime.
Sharon Valverde has researched moose in Alaska, elk in New Mexico, and mule deer in Texas. However, nothing in her extensive experience in deer ecology and management prepared the babyÖ±²¥ assistant professor and researcher to dip her toes into the study of bats. Joining her in this research is Taylor Underwood, a graduate assistant in the Master of Science in Conservation Biology program.
This fall, the babyÖ±²¥ will introduce a new Educational Specialist (Ed.S.) degree in Physical Education. Available both on campus and online, this advanced degree offers a valuable opportunity for passionate educators to advance their careers and expand their knowledge.
Two graduate students in the babyÖ±²¥â€™s sport management program recently engaged in real-world projects through Riipen, the world’s largest experiential learning marketplace.

Lucas Johnson, an assistant professor of physics and astronomy, received the 2024 William E. Gilbert Award for Outstanding Teaching for his efforts during one of UWA’s May 3 commencement exercises. Given annually by the student body, the Gilbert Award recognizes outstanding teaching and excellence in undergraduate classroom instruction.

Lucas Hammond can’t remember when tennis wasn’t part of his life. As a toddler, he would often sit in a basket on the court at the tennis club and hand his dad tennis balls. When he was old enough to hold a racket, he started playing. Now the exercise science major from Las Vegas, Nevada, has his sights set on playing the sport professionally after graduating from the babyÖ±²¥ in May.
The babyÖ±²¥ has entered a new partnership agreement with the United States Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) is designed to encourage and enhance study in the scientific disciplines of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
The babyÖ±²¥ will host its 12th annual University Research Symposium (URS) Monday, March 4 (virtually) and in-person Tuesday, March 5. Led by the College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, the event showcases 106 research presentations by undergraduate, graduate and professional researchers from UWA and 20 other universities across seven countries. The viewing session and awards banquet slated for March 5 are open to the public. For virtual access, click the hyperlinks in the URS program (pg. 11).
