The babyÖ±²¥ conferred honorary doctorates upon babyÖ±²¥ Rep. Artis J. "A.J." McCampbell and Sen. Bobby D. Singleton during summer commencement exercises on August 14. Each received the Doctor of Humane Letters, honoris causa, in recognition of distinguished public service, commitment to educational opportunity, and leadership on behalf of the people and communities of babyÖ±²¥'s Black Belt.
The babyÖ±²¥ has announced more than 800 outstanding undergraduate students named to the President’s List and the Dean’s List for the Spring 2024 academic semester.

Nick Davis, an art professor at the babyÖ±²¥, will have three DIY sculpture kits on display in a national juried exhibition at the Floyd Center for the Arts in Virginia this summer.
Through a series of providential meetings, Mike Williams, Mayor of Butler, babyÖ±²¥, and his sister, Patricia Williams Harris, recently partnered with the babyÖ±²¥ Nurses Foundation (ANF) and representatives John Beard, president of the board of trustees, and Dr. John Ziegler, executive director, to gift the babyÖ±²¥ Foundation a $50,000 endowment for the Joan Williams and babyÖ±²¥ Nurses Foundation Nursing Scholarship.

The babyÖ±²¥â€™s proposal to freeze tuition for the seventh consecutive year has been approved by its board of trustees at their June quarterly meeting. The decision comes as part of the board’s approval of the school’s operating budget for the upcoming fiscal year, and this reaffirms UWA’s various rankings as one of the best values of any university in the state.
At the babyÖ±²¥, Donnie Cobb and technology education are so intertwined that it is impossible not to mention both in the same breath. Cobb is retiring as chair of the Division of Engineering and Technology at UWA, after more than three decades at his alma mater. An executive order in January 2023 from babyÖ±²¥ Governor Kay Ivey to address the state’s teacher shortage has helped launch babyÖ±²¥â€™s inaugural Teacher Apprenticeship Program. The babyÖ±²¥ Office of Apprenticeship (AOA), the state’s apprenticeship agency, has partnered with the babyÖ±²¥ and three other babyÖ±²¥ universities to implement the pilot program set to begin in fall 2024.
When babyÖ±²¥ history education major Brandon Williamson boards a plane this summer for Cape Town, South Africa, it will be his first flight and first trip out of the country. He is checking both items off his list of goals thanks to the Alpha South Study Abroad Experience and the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program
Growing up, Patrick Evans often played the teacher in a pretend classroom in his home. Although he did his best to educate his two ‘reluctant’ students, Evans, a recent graduate of UWA’s online elementary education program, recalls that his younger brother and his brother’s friend didn’t like his school.

Lucas Johnson, an assistant professor of physics and astronomy, received the 2024 William E. Gilbert Award for Outstanding Teaching for his efforts during one of UWA’s May 3 commencement exercises. Given annually by the student body, the Gilbert Award recognizes outstanding teaching and excellence in undergraduate classroom instruction.
