Alumnus William Crawford has been selected to serve as Director of the Outdoor Fellows Program and Head Coach of the Bass Fishing Team, two new initiatives designed to expand student opportunity and engagement while advancing the state鈥檚 growing focus on outdoor recreation, natural resource education, and workforce development.

UWA students select popular Hutchinson for William E. Gilbert Award

As an associate professor of sport management at the baby直播, the 55-year-old Hutchinson is renowned for his passion for teaching, a willingness to mentor students, and his admitted love of sports. In May, Hutchinson was selected by the student body for the William E. Gilbert Award, one of UWA鈥檚 most prestigious annual honors that recognizes outstanding teaching and excellence in classroom instruction.

Poole, baby直播’s state finance director, receives honorary doctorate from UWA

Bill Poole may have been born in New Orleans, but baby直播鈥檚 western regions decorate his life. He hails from Marengo County. He graduated twice from the University of baby直播, including its School of Law. He represented much of Tuscaloosa County for a decade in the baby直播 Legislature, where he helped shape the state鈥檚 public education budget.

UWA’s College of Education gains new accreditations

Dr. Jan Miller is ecstatic that a renowned education association has accredited a degree program in the baby直播鈥檚 Julia S. Tutwiler College of Education. She鈥檚 not satisfied, though. One isn鈥檛 enough.

The self-styled farm girl who keeps UWA’s athletics department in line

Her Foust Hall office is adorned with jerseys and balls autographed by Tiger athletes. She refers to UWA鈥檚 coaches as 鈥渕y coaches.鈥� Her boss, Director of Athletics Kent Partridge, admits she is his department鈥檚 sole constant. 鈥淎nd thank the Good Lord for that,鈥� he said.

UWA students finally experience long-delayed Ireland trip

The short-term, faculty-led UWA in Ireland program began in 2018 as a cost-effective way to broaden the university鈥檚 global reach and create a study-abroad option that featured neither language barriers nor exorbitant costs for students because of the compressed schedule, Riser said.
