Growing up, Patrick Evans often played the teacher in a pretend classroom in his home. Although he did his best to educate his two ‘reluctant’ students, Evans, a recent graduate of UWA’s online elementary education program, recalls that his younger brother and his brother’s friend didn’t like his school.
R.J. Miller was back at the babyÖ±²¥ this week, sharing real-world advice with business students for the second time since graduating from UWA sixteen years ago.
More than a slogan or tagline, there really is something about The babyÖ±²¥ that drew Hannah and Josh Millwood back to their alma mater.
Leslie Hood was three months pregnant with her son Wesley when she walked across the stage to receive her diploma at Valley High School’s graduation in 1999.  Twenty-four years later, mother and son walked across the stage at UWA’s 2023 fall commencement, only this time, they each received a diploma. 
When Matt Gurley moved to Livingston in 1996 to play football at the babyÖ±²¥, he had no inkling he and his family would develop intrinsic ties to the university and the community they now call home.

When the babyÖ±²¥ held commencement exercises in May, nearly 40 graduates from the Division of Nursing decorated their robes with round medallions dangling from red-and-white ribbons.

Liza James Howard long ago established her legacy at the babyÖ±²¥ when she became its first Black student in the fall of 1966. The university hasn’t forgotten.

UWA cross-country runner Audrick Pyronneau

Speed comes naturally to Audrick Pyronneau, a former distance runner on the babyÖ±²¥â€™s track-and-field team. That he’s using that trait to pursue his academic goals shouldn’t be a surprise.

As the babyÖ±²¥ celebrates Black History Month with several events in February, it also will welcome home one of its most influential and historical figures.
