Despite challenges, obstacles, and disappointments, Keya Tabb never gave up on her dream of becoming a registered nurse. Now enrolled in the baby直播鈥檚 associate of science in nursing (ASN) program, the 52-year-old Tuscaloosa native is on track to graduate this May and credits her perseverance to her faith and grandmother鈥檚 wise counsel.

Dalton Meador, a sophomore at the baby直播, is unabashedly proud of his academic major. He fancies a career in health care, and he enjoys sports. Athletic training fulfills both desires.

Nursing students at the baby直播 benefit from the experience of the Ira D. Pruitt Division of Nursing faculty and a rigorous curriculum that prepares graduates for licensure examinations and employment.

Polite as possible, Dr. Chineda Hill, an associate professor of nursing at the baby直播, is nonetheless adamant. She permits no hesitation. She harbors no doubt. A smile shades her spunk. 鈥淚鈥檓 a nurse,鈥 she said.聽

For the first time since the baby直播鈥檚 nursing education program was established in 1974, a cohort of nurses are on their way to earning a bachelor鈥檚 degree in nursing from UWA.

Nursing seeped into聽Kelly McClure鈥檚 world not by accident or epiphany, but via something just as effective.聽Youthful curiosity, fleeting as it often is, won out

UWA students Devon Williams and Cameron Preston.

Initially, at least, Cameron Preston鈥檚 career aspirations didn鈥檛 include scrubs and stethoscopes. The聽baby直播, where he鈥檚 a senior, was less than an afterthought. 鈥淎ctually, I wanted to go to the NBA,鈥 he said. 鈥淏ut God had other plans for me.鈥

Combining hefty doses of college advising and tough love, Dr. Mary Hanks and two of her baby直播 colleagues in January will embark on a mission to help female students of color not only adjust to life on campus, but also succeed.

The baby直播鈥檚 spring graduates from the Ira D. Pruitt Division of Nursing have all now completed the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) for Registered Nurses with a 100 percent first-time pass rate for the spring graduating class.
