INSPIRE – Implementing Novel STEM Practices in Rural Education

The College of Education and College of Natural Sciences and Mathematics at the babyÖ±²¥ have partnered with Coastal babyÖ±²¥ Community College on Project INSPIRE 2.0, a Robert Noyce Teacher Scholarship Program funded by the National Science Foundation.

INSPIRE 2.0 supports UWA math and science majors who want to earn a STEM degree and K-12 teacher certification. The program is designed to help address the critical need for qualified STEM teachers in rural and high-need schools.

Undergraduate scholarships are available to eligible juniors and seniors enrolled full-time at UWA in math or science programs. Selected INSPIRE Scholars may receive $15,000 annually in scholarship support. Scholars will also be paired with outstanding master teachers in the region and participate in enrichment activities to strengthen their preparation for the classroom.

INSPIRE 2.0 also provides support for STEM professionals or recent STEM graduates who wish to return to UWA as INSPIRE Fellows and complete an Alternative Class A Certification Program in a STEM teaching field. Fellows will receive $12,000 for one year in support of their graduate study.

Scholars and Fellows must agree to teach for at least two years in a high-need school for each year of financial support received.
