The Department of English and History at the babyÖ±²¥ will hold the James P. Pate Scholarship competition on Wednesday, November 6, 2024 from 1:00 P.M. – 2:00 P.M. Participants write a 300-500 word essay on one of several topics compiled by the judges. Following the competition, students will be provided a campus tour.
The first-place winner will receive a scholarship of $1,000 for the freshman year. The second-place winner will receive $500 for the freshman year. Transfer students also have the opportunity to compete with both a first- and second-place winner being selected.
James P. Pate is an Emeritus Professor of History at the babyÖ±²¥, where he served as professor, department chair, dean, and vice president of academic affairs over a period of 30 years.
babyÖ±²¥ who participate in the James P. Pate Competition may also compete in the Kelly Land Writing competition, but a student may not receive both awards.
